11.Jul.2009 2010 Aston Martin DBS Volante – Spotlight
There are only a few names in the car industry which can boast of a good pedigree of its fleet. One of them is Aston Martin and its top caliber DBS which now has a top-down version, the Volante.
The Volante has a powerful beast under its hood. A V12 6.0L engine with a 510hp output and a 420lb-ft of torque can zoom the car from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.2 seconds. The Volante has a recorded speed of 307 km/h or 191 mph. The powerful engine is coupled with a six speed touctronic or manual transmission.
Designers of the car made sure that anyone behind the wheel can have a relaxed driving experience either cruising with the roof down or roof up. The DBS Volante has a perfect chemistry for performance, power, and elegance of its craftsmanship.
Aston Martin has breathed into life several successful drop-top cars in history. The Volante is the 16th of the brood in the car manufacturer’s 95 years of history.
The Volante also derived some structural rigidity from its coupe version. Attributed to the rear sub-frame and the shear panels, the Volante has 75% of the rigidity of its coupe sibling.
Only the best of materials were used in assembling the car. To match its thumping V12, Aston Martin equipped the Volante with ceramic carbon brakes to make sure the driver has total control of its speed. Carbon fiber was also used for the trunk lid, front wing, and the hood.
The Volante may be small when you look at it but it is still a hefty ride at 3990lb. It is aptly set up with an ADS or active damping system so owners can tune it for speed or comfort – something a lot of other exotic cars miss – but not the sumptuous Aston!
The DBS Volante was definitely designed for something beyond the eyes. It was endowed by Aston Martin with capabilities to perform on the road and stuffed it with goodies to make the one driving it smile while cruising down the strip.
