10.Jun.2009 Anti Theft Devices: Should They Come Standard?

anti-theftThere is an ongoing but little known debate going on these days, concerning the safety of cars.  Specifically, this debate concerns the presence of anti theft devices.

Ours is currently a society that is understandably obsessed with theft.  It is not over the top to say that concern has morphed into something stronger.  A growing number of credit cards, for instance, now offer identity theft features as a matter of course.

The crux of this debate revolves around whether or not certain anti theft devices should come standard on cars, trucks, SUVs, and so on.  At the very least, it would seem reasonable for anti theft devices to be offered as an available feature on far more vehicles than currently offer it.

Most people will agree that this does not mean manufacturers should include a club or anything like that with the purchase of a vehicle.  However, it might be palatable to car buyers to have the option of having a car alarm come standard or at least be available as a feature if they choose to have it installed.
