It seems like, since Apple started doing it, everyone seems to think that if you put a lower case “i” on the front of something, it’s sure to sell.

It will, in fact, be the kind of commodity that causes the Tickle Me Elmo phenomenon, wherein people will shank each other to get a shot out of it. They will lie, cheat, and steal to get one.

And now, Hyundai is jumping on the bandwagon. How? With the i-Flow concept. It is alternately known as the HED-7.

Will it be a big seller? Is it worthy of the “i” phenomenon?

One such surprise came courtesy Seat, the Spanish manufacturer quite well known for bringing the Ibiza to the masses.

The automaker’s IBE concept is short, it is low, and it is wide, in spite of the fact that the car is characterized as a compact meant for hip youths who live in equally hip, urban areas.

I don’t know, sounds like a sales pitch to me. And the two door, with seating for four, is … well, it’s look looking enough, I guess.

But does it live up to such high expectations? Not in my book, kids.

The Sofia concept, a show car launched at the much anticipated auto show in Geneva, offered all of that and more.

At the show, the concept was revealed solely as an exterior model. Still, what it showed has captured the hearts of car lovers.

It is so streamlined and sleek that a number of viewers were left just hoping that it makes it to production sometime soon. And of course, given its Italian based origins, even IDEA agrees that calling it the “Sofia” was a calculated move designed to evoke curvy connotations.

This concept is the result of a collaborative effort with Tesla, and it will be revealed at the motor show in Geneva, set to take place just next month.

Eleven studets, who are part of the Transportation Design MA program at the university, created the concept. Franz von Holzhausen, the Design Director for Tesla, oversaw and supervised the project.

The target audience for this vehicle is the young set, the cosmopolitan youth of the world. The front mask is comprised of black plexiglass and the structure of the roof is highly innovative.

Owners will be able to choose between two different types of power: a fuel cell electric drivetrain or a plug in hybrid.

Inside, drivers will find a variety of different materials, the majority of them lightweight. Alcantara, natural wood, magnesium: they can all be found in the interior.

One reason why we need concept cars is because without them – all of the cars and trucks would look exactly the same and do we really want that? Also, there would be no ideas at all to breed and that is where all of the new features come through.

In the next blog, we will talk about what would happen if we did not have any concept cars!

This vehicle, a Swiss made concept, is actually known as the Rinspeed UC?, complete with question mark. Bad grammar, but certainly an eye catcher.

Maybe they did that on purpose. “UC” itself is actually an acronym meant to stand for “Urban Commuter,” and there seems to be no need for the extra punctuation. Then again, “UC” can also stand for an actual question: “You see?” Why yes, we do see.

We see a lot of sharp angles and a very futuristic type of design as well.

And the rumor is that the vehicle may have an option for a rail car loading system … so that, evidently, the car can kind of just hop on the train tracks and avoid traffic jams and gridlock?

Recently, the Mini branch unveiled the new Beachcomber concept, which will be publicly revealed early in 2010, in Detroit at the NAIAS.

The Beachcomber gets its inspiration from way back in the 1960s, specifically from a feisty little number known as the Mini Moke. The Beachcomber is a four seater with both a hard top and a soft top, both of which can be removed; the doors can be removed as well. The vehicle is less than four meters in length and it will actually preview the upcoming Mini SUV, which will also debut in 2010.

Now, the automaker has finally released official pictures of the concept. It is a luxury commuter concept which is actually based around the rather tiny Toyota iQ.

Aston Martin plans for the Cygnet to be offered as a sort of “tender” when a buyer purchases one of the automaker’s “real” vehicles. Aston Martin describes the Cygnet as representing a more environmentally friendly solution.

As you can see, the concept car is small — it would almost have to be, since it is based on the iQ — but the design elements are perfectly in sync with the luxury of the brand. The grille is characteristic, as are the fender vents and the hood. The interior echoes Aston Martin’s luxury qualities as well.
